Established in 1970, Midwest Nursery has grown from a small tree farm, to over 100 acres in production. Originally, the nursery was a division off of Midwest Landscapes, but it separated in 2021 to become its own independent company. Midwest Nursery is a wholesale, balled and burlap tree grower, that specializes in shade and ornamental trees. Our trees are for commercial and residential landscape use only. With the acquisition of our second property in Monticello, MN, we will soon be offering evergreen B&B trees in the near future. Stay tuned for more!
The Process
Where you get the trees from
Outsourcing the Trees
We source a majority of our trees from the Pacific Northwest and northern Minnesota - Each spring, we get truckloads of bare root trees that we will stored in our coolers for 3 months.
Coolers Operation
The cooler = The Bare Root Room
Once the trees arrive in Minnesota, they go directed into our cooler rooms. They live here for about 3 months. Our coolers are pressure sealed from all of the outdoor elements and remain at 55.5 degrees. For 3 months the tress live here as they stay dormant until planting.
Dig & Plant Season
Spring is our busiest season - We begin our dig process starting in the early spring and try to get all 6,000 trees out of the ground before the first buds appear on the trees. After the dig process comes to an end, we turn right around and hit the planting season hard.
